The Evidence and Gap Map (EGM) focuses on evaluating the effectiveness of strategies for preventing violent conflict and atrocities. It provides a systematic framework connecting intervention strategies with measurable outcomes like reduced violence and improved social cohesion. The study analyzed 573 studies on CAP interventions, primarily in low- and middle-income countries, categorizing them into direct strategies (e.g., conflict mediation, law and accountability) and indirect strategies (e.g., governance reform, civil society support). Most studies focused on conflict prevention (78%), while a small portion (5%) addressed atrocity prevention. The EGM identifies gaps in evidence, particularly for emergent conflict settings, and aims to inform future research and policy development.

Unpack the Guidebook

This guidebook provides structured summaries of evidence captured in the EGM on conflict and atrocity prevention. It presents findings by intervention-outcome cell, based on standardized coding of over 570 evaluations. The content is intended for analysts and decision-makers requiring methodologically consistent insights from empirical studies.
